I am Listening to My Gut…How about You?

I am Listening to My Gut…How about You?

When you hear the word gut, you might want to immediately think of your stomach and what you can better do to clean your gut so you can feel good. I’m talking more about the feelings you have that you can often feel internally. Yes, those inner core, deep down feelings that you feel are too vivid and profound to ignore. Although I am talking about a completely different gut health, being in tune with your body and what you need in order to live a happier more fulfilled life really is at the core of your gut.

Are you listening to your gut? You know when you have that unnerving feeling that things have to change or when something isn’t quite going right in your life? There is an almost unconscious pull which propels you to change so that you can squash the uneasiness you feel. That feeling and reaction to it might be your gut talking.

In this same way, I am talking about what you want to do with the rest of your life and what your gut is calling you to do. Do you want to stay at your same old 9 to 5? For some that may be a definite yes. However, for many others, there is a nagging desire inside to do something more. And, for a good reason, we only have one life to live after all and none of us are promised tomorrow. So, why do so many of us stay in jobs that don’t make us as happy or as fulfilled as we would like to feel? Besides having to pay bills and pay for food, what real reason do we have to keep doing what makes us unhappy?

If you knew tomorrow was your last day on earth,🌏 would you be content leaving knowing that you have done what makes you happy? If the answer is no, then I suggest rethinking what you are doing.

There is no secret that I am actively trying to find other avenues so that I can move away from education. I’ve done my time in this career choice of mine and I do believe I have done it well, but my heart and mind, are yearning for something more. Now, I am setting up a plan and I know that with hard work and dedication, God will open a door when he is ready for me. Until that time, I will give 110% of myself to my job as an educator, as that is who I am, and most importantly, because I have children depending on me to do so. However, I will also plan ahead for my future and my happiness and I am learning that it is ok to do just that.

How am I going to move on, you ask? Very simply, I am going to set long term and short term goals for myself.

If you find yourself in my situation, here is the deal: First, try to find your passion, vision, or interest that is calling your attention. Next, set a long term goal, maybe a 10-year long goal. Finally, set short term goals that will get you there. Those short term goals will keep you moving towards the big picture with the end in mind as you move along. They will keep you motivated and accountable.

You cannot just say, “I am unhappy with my current job or situation and my dream is to be an actress,” and think that your dream is going to come to fruition by just speaking it. It just will not happen. You have to act upon your dreams. It isn’t like you have a  magic bottle with a genie inside that is going to grant you three wishes. Wouldn’t that be nice 🙂 You must act upon what you feel inside your gut and prepare yourself for your moment to shine in all that happiness.

Last night, as I searched the web, I stumbled upon this interview with Oprah and thought it too important not to share.

This interview really got me thinking and asking questions like, why am I here? Really…why am I here? I don’t have that answer and I am on a mission to find it. I do want to connect, give back, and be understood and find the peace within myself to accept that we are all the same and that I am just as good as anyone else. We are here on this magnificent planet that we share and all any of us wants is to be the best we can be. That is what I am looking for. I am looking to be my best.

If you are struggling to listen to your gut and really want a change in your life:

  • Think deeply about what makes you happy and don’t worry about anyone else but you.

  • Learn about your passion, research it, become an expert, etc…

  • Make a long term goal. In the next 10 years, I am going to …..

  • Make short terms goals that will be accomplished in short spurts of time so that you feel and see forward progress.

  • Keep active and work hard and keep your eye on the prize

  • Don’t lose sight of your dream, even if you fall over and over again. If you are not falling, you are not learning!

  • Be kind to others along the way.

How Am I Listening to my Gut?

Well, if you have a family, you know all too well how hard it is to get some peace and quiet, much less time to really sit and think about your gut feelings. That is like a one in a million shot. But, if we truly want to find happiness, we have to start making the time. Make the time to feel your inner being. What I started doing is writing and blogging about my health, and my online experiences and this has made such a difference. It has made me happy. I like writing, after all. I may not be great at it, but it is something I can grow into and something that relaxes me.

Which brings me to finding time to be one with yourself. Wow! That is absolutely insane. Like that ever happens. I know and I get you. Seriously, life is hectic for so many of us, but we need to start thinking of ourselves. Maybe Chakra Suite sounds, pictured below isn’t for you, that is perfectly ok. But, I suggest going to places like youtube and finding meditation music that will make you stop and really get in tune with your body. I am giving myself 5 minutes in the morning to awaken my being as it relaxes and finds peace before the day begins. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. It is soothing, relaxing, and starts your day with great clarity.

There is much we can do to find our true happiness, but we must begin with ourselves. Stay focused on you. Be happy for others if they achieve more than you. Don’t be envious. That will take you nowhere fast. Competing with others because of jealousy is an ugly demon that leads to unhappiness. Remember, we are all unique individuals and we all have problems no matter how rich or poor we are. Not on of us is perfect. So, stop focusing on what you wish you had, and focus on what you have and what you are going to do to make it better if that is what your gut is telling you to do.

I am working on a unique online business opportunity that is taking a lot of hours and hard work.  I see people all the time succeeding and making thousands of dollars each month. Yet, I am not going to sit and judge and wish them ill-will simply because they have done what it takes to reach those levels of success. Good for them for putting in the hard work and dedication.  I choose to focus on me and put in the time and effort to make my dream a reality. It has nothing to do with my neighbor or friend or online peers.  It has to do with me and how hard I am willing to work to achieve my goals. Afterall, you have to set your goals to keep you focused ahead and not on others.

Should You Listen to Your Gut?

Well, I think you know the answer to that. Don’t take my word for it. You be you. No, you be the best you! Make your goals and reach for the stars! Remember, we only have one shot at this thing we call life and for some of us, we’ve wasted a lot of precious time.
