Whole30 Week 3 Results

Do you want to know how much weight I have lost thus far? Yep, it really would be nice to know, wouldn’t it?  I would like to know too. However, The awesome folks at Whole30 say no to weighing yourself and, I have to agree with them. There is so much that can go wrong with weighing yourself. For me, I can totally see myself not having lost weight and wanting to give up. Whatever the reason, this process really isn’t about a number on a scale. It is about so much more. It is about feeling better and I can tell you wholeheartedly that I feel 110% better already. I had been struggling with hip pain for a while now and believe it or not, it really has subsided. I can’t tell you how happy this has made me. 

 

I am ecstatic about how I feel, and that I have stuck with Whole30 for 21 days now without a chance of me backing down. I feel too awesome to go back now. It is like I have unearthed energy that I thought I’d never find again. I am in control of what I eat and let me tell you, it has been a very long time since I have been in control of myself. It sure does feel good.  I have had opportunities time and time again to eat the foods I used to eat and I have said no each and every time.  In fact, yesterday, I joined my family at Cici’s Pizza and I ate only a salad with no salad dressing. That was insane!  I would never have done that 21 days ago. I love pizza so much, but I didn’t think twice about breaking what I have worked so hard for with Whole30, not a chance! I want to continue eating healthy food every day for as long as I can.

 

Now, I have not been perfect during this time when it comes to the Whole30 rules. Dallas and Melissa Hartwig, the writers of the Whole30 program, really do stress eating three meals a day. I am having an issue with this though because I am not hungry. Never did I think I’d say that. Me, not hungry? That’s a first. I’m finding that I don’t really have a lot of cravings or desire to eat. That is a miracle in itself. Yet, I know I have to work on this especially as I go back to work this August. I must have a plan. 



Your Energy Level during Week 3 of Whole30

 

During week 3, you may feel like your energy level is through the roof, you are understanding that NO is, in fact, an option when it comes to food, and you are probably a lot more active than you have been in a long while. There really is nothing you can not do, in your opinion, during this time. The people at Whole30 like to call this time period the “Tiger Blood” phase. And, for good reason. Your energy and clarity are pretty amazing! This is not to say that all people are going to work-out with a fierce intensity level or have perfect days. I can tell you, from experience though, that you will be better at any exercise you set your mind to do. If your exercise life was non-existent, I can bet that by now you have at least tried to do some type of light activity. I have been dealing with a foot issue and still, I have moved from no exercise to walking most days out of the week. This is a big deal for me. Some day, I hope to get back to running again. 

 

Here I am 20 days apart. My cheeks are not as swollen! Wow!

Things to Consider:

  • Don’t worry about your weight. Leave the scale alone! Gauge your success on how you are feeling.

  • Plan your meals in advance. Don’t be like me. I have been winging it, but I am off during the summer, so I have gotten away with it thus far. I will have to start prepping before I go back to work.  Cooking isn’t my thing, but I am slowly getting better in this regard.

  • Eat three meals a day. Like I mentioned before, you may not be hungry, but the program really wants us to eat our three meals.

  • Talk to friends and get people on board with you. The more people on board around you, the more successful you will be.

  • Cook! Cook! Cook! – Even if you despise cooking like I do 😉 One step at a time. I am gaining more confidence with each healthy meal that I create.

  • Celebrate each day!

 

 

 

 


My Week 3 Favorite Foods

Let me just say, as I have said before, that I am not someone who likes to cook, AT ALL! Don’t like it, don’t want to like it, etc… BUT…I’m going to tell you that it really does help to let those feelings go and find some kind of will to just do it. Find healthy meal recipes from cookbooks or online. There is so much online at our fingertips. This lifestyle change is forcing me to take control of my own food. I don’t have to depend on anyone else cooking for me. I also believe it is important that my children see me trying to be healthy and cooking low-fat meals for all of our family to enjoy. For so long I had been preaching to them how important it is to be healthy while I was doing the complete opposite of what I said. Now, I am able to walk the walk and it sure does feel good. I suggest that you try cooking easy Whole30 program recipes, even if it is one meal a day or a week, whatever it is that will help you move in a positive direction when it comes to cooking.

    1. Thank you Aquinda. Whole30 really has been a life saver for me. My pain has diminished and I am losing weight and feeling great. I am here if you decide to go full force Whole30.   1. Wow, being a “health nut” as I’m called often, is difficult because I love to eat and I love to eat what i want when I want. Looking at your pics, this would be a difficult diet for me at all, because those are foods I like to eat. My biggest problem is that I hate cooking and never plan my meals, I often order out. This I would have to practice. Great Post and thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Kay, I feel your pain with not liking to cook. I really do not like it at all! But, I have been putting forth more effort just so I can keep this going. My husband is helpful so that is a plus. I am also finding that I can eat salads when I go out and they often are very good. 🙂 My goal is to get this whole planning thing figured out before I go back to work here in August. If I don’t, I fear that I will fall back to my old habits. Anyhow, thanks again for visiting my site. Hope to see you back.

  2. I bought the book but I am still waiting for it to be delivered to me. I am a big sugar addict so what I have done to cut out my candy bar addiction is to switch to sweet potato chips (no salt).

    1. Hello! It is great to hear that you bought the WHOLE30 book. I know you will find great use from it. I like your idea of using sweet potato chips. If they are store bought, you might check the ingredients to make sure they don’t have extra ingredients that may not be good. I like to make sweet potato fries in the oven. Yum! Anyhow, before you decide to go full force with this, I strongly suggest reading the first part of the book so you know exactly why this works because it does work. It will change your need for those candy bars. Believe me, I was extremely bad. I wanted everything and anything sweet, especially when I was stressed. Now, I go for grapes, strawberries, oranges, and a handful of cashews when I am really stressed and boy it has made a huge difference in how I feel. Make sure to prepare ahead of time and get foods that you need and let people know that you are doing this so they support you.     1. Thank you, Vince. Whole30 really has helped me start this process of regaining my health again. Th book is a great tool. It gives you a shopping list of items that you may want to purchase before starting. It gives you many recipes and a 7-Day meal plan. There is so much more the book has to offer. OF course, there is always tons of information online as well. I use the book as a reference a lot though, but that is just me. Anyhow, thank you for stopping by and hope to see you back again.

    1. Thank you. I feel so much better. I had really let myself get out of control and this book has changed my relationship with food. Even if people don’t struggle with food, but maybe aren’t feeling good and had stomach issues or body aches, this book really does help guide you to clear your body of the toxins and restart with a healthier you.     1. Thank you. I, too, agree that sugar is important, but boy did I have a huge overconsumption issue. Whole30 has made me aware of how addicted I was to all the bad foods and has helped me to feel better about myself. It feels good to get healthy and active 🙂

    1. Thank you! It has been a while since I have felt this good. And, I am doing all this with a hurt ankle. So, I can just imagine how I would be doing if I weren’t hurt. Whole30 does work and it does change peoples lives if they work hard and allow the process to happen. The goal is always to keep this healthy lifestyle for as long as possible, hoping on forever.
